Luther James Phipps

Luther James Phipps (1898–1969) graduated from the university in civil engineering in 1922 and opened a law practice in Chapel Hill in 1924, the year he married Vivian Lassiter. In 1927 he was managing the Pickwick Theatre. He was judge of the Chapel Hill Recorder's Court in 1933-39 and 1964-68 and the first judge of the Orange County Recorder's Court in Hillsborough. In 1961 he took Stanley Peele into partnership.
