The Friends of the Orange County Public Library, Inc. (“the Friends,” “we”) is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit. This page describes what information this website collects and what we do with it, in plain language, because that is the only language we have.
What we collect, and why
- Membership and donations. When you join or give, we collect your name, contact information, and gift details so we can record your membership, send receipts, and thank you. Card payments are processed by Stripe; your card number goes to Stripe, not to us, and we never see or store it.
- Newsletter signup. Your email address, used only to send you our newsletter. Every email includes an unsubscribe link that works immediately.
- Contact form. Your name, email, and message, used to reply to you.
- Volunteer signups. Your name and contact information, used to coordinate the shift you signed up for and to reach you about future volunteer opportunities.
- Community stories. If you share a story about the library, we review it before anything appears publicly, and we publish only what the form said we would publish.
- Symbolic naming (Name a Spot). Your name and the public line you choose. The line appears on the site only after a volunteer approves it, and never if you asked to stay anonymous.
What we don’t do
- We do not sell, rent, or trade your information with anyone, ever.
- We do not run advertising or advertising trackers on this site.
- We do not send you email you didn’t ask for.
Cookies
This site sets cookies only for basic operation: for example, keeping members logged in to their account. There are no third-party advertising or analytics cookies.
Third parties we rely on
Payments are processed by Stripe under their privacy policy. Emails we send go through our email provider. Library event listings shown on this site come from the library’s public calendar and involve no information about you.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email using the link in it. You can ask us what information we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (we may need to keep donation records that tax law requires us to keep). For any of these, use the contact form or email us. We’re volunteers, and we’ll respond as quickly as we can.
