Charlie Lee Martindale was a Chapel Hill contractor said to have built many of the brick stores on Franklin Street and several houses in the Franklin-Rosemary area. He was general contractor for the Gimghoul Castle and, around 1920, built his own bungalow at 1518 East Franklin Street, doing its interior woodwork himself.
