The company was founded in 1918 under Frederick H. Koch. Published by the University of North Carolina Press in 1970, 178 pages with illustrations and portraits.

A twelve page illustrated booklet marking forty years of the Department of Dramatic Art and the Carolina Playmakers at Chapel Hill, 1918 to 1958, with a register of Playmakers alumni. The University of North Carolina printed it in two versions in 1958: one on white glossy paper, which adds a view of Playmakers Theatre to the back cover, and one in blue wrappers with wheat colored paper inside.

  10. The Lost Colony premieres Paul Green's pageant-drama The Lost Colony opened on Roanoke Island on Sunday evening, July 4, 1937, and the Chapel Hill Weekly reported that it scored a hit. Frederick Koch dies and is buried in the old Chapel Hill Cemetery Koch, who taught dramatic literature and playwriting at UNC for twenty-six years and organized the Carolina Playmakers, died on August 16, 1944 and was buried in the old Chapel Hill Cemetery.   14. Lillian Hughes Prince leaves funds to the Carolina Playmakers Lillian Hughes Prince, who had acted in thirty or more Playmakers productions, left considerable funds to the Carolina Playmakers in her will. She died in New York and was buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery.
