Who We Are

About the Friends

An independent, volunteer-run nonprofit supporting the Orange County Public Library since 1981.

Founded in Hillsborough in 1981, the Friends of the Orange County Public Library have grown alongside the library itself. In 2026, the Friends of the Southern Branch joined our organization, bringing supporters of both library locations together in one countywide Friends group.

We’re neighbors who love the library and want to help it thrive. We raise money, volunteer, run book sales, connect people with the library, and speak up when it matters.

Our mission is to help ensure that the Orange County Public Library has the resources and community support it needs to thrive.

Raise Support

Memberships, donations, book sales, and sponsorships turn into programs, equipment, staff development, and other library needs.

Build Community

Book sales, author events, volunteer opportunities, and other projects bring people together around the library.

Speak Up

We help residents understand what the library needs and make it easier for the community to be heard.
