William C. Friday

William C. Friday, a longtime Chapel Hill resident, earned his law degree at UNC in 1948, was assistant dean of students there until 1951 and was president of the University of North Carolina from 1956 to 1986. He worked for five years to repeal the 1963 Speaker Ban Law and died at home on October 12, 2012.
