Gordon Gray

Gray was installed as president of the University of North Carolina on October 12, 1950 and served until 1955. Under him the Chapel Hill health affairs division expanded and the four-year medical, dental and nursing schools opened, Black students were first admitted, and the university gained FM radio and educational television licenses at Chapel Hill.

It records three days of events, October 8 to 10: a sermon and convocation in Greensboro at the Woman's College, a second convocation on the Chapel Hill campus, and the closing ceremony in Raleigh at State College. Published by the university, 95 pages with illustrations in a large format.

The ceremonies moved across the state: an inaugural sermon and convocation at the Woman's College in Greensboro on 8 October, a convocation in Chapel Hill on 9 October, and the inauguration itself at North Carolina State College in Raleigh on 10 October.
