William de Berniere MacNider

Born in Chapel Hill, William de Berniere MacNider graduated in the first class of UNC's medical school in 1903, organized the university's first Department of Pharmacology in 1905 and was dean of the School of Medicine from 1937 to 1940. He is buried in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, and MacNider Hall is named for him.
