George Micklejohn

George Micklejohn was the Church of England rector of St. Matthew's Parish in Hillsborough, sent there by Governor William Tryon in April 1767. In 1768 he preached to Tryon's militia on the duty of subjection to the civil powers, and in 1775 he opened the Third Provincial Congress with prayer. A loyalist, he was taken into custody in 1776.

George Micklejohn swears allegiance to the state and is released from parole Taken prisoner after Moore's Creek, the Hillsborough rector was paroled on May 3, 1776 to Perquimans County, then ordered moved there in July when he was found still in Orange. On November 24 he took the oath of allegiance before the Halifax Congress and was discharged, and he later lived at Thomas Person's Goshen in Granville.
