Caldwell, John, 1779-1857 · 1766

John Caldwell, 1779 to 1857, was a merchant and banker at Morganton, and his papers cover 1766 to 1917 with the bulk from 1810 to 1850. Subjects include account books, the Bank of Cape Fear and the Bank of the United States, and bills of sale for enslaved people in North Carolina. Student life at Chapel Hill and Tod Robinson Caldwell are also named. Southern Historical Collection at UNC, collection 329.
