A committee of three medical faculty, Charles S. Mangum, James Bell Bullitt and William deB. MacNider, surveyed medical education at the University of North Carolina and signed their report in February 1933. The School of Medicine printed it in Chapel Hill. Topics include medical colleges in Chapel Hill and medical personnel in the state, making it a source on the school before its later expansion.

Bullitt as chair of pathology at the UNC School of Medicine in 1946 and held the post until 1973, building a research program in thrombosis and hemostasis.
