Kenneth M. Brinkhous chairs the UNC Department of Pathology
Brinkhous succeeded James B. Bullitt as chair of pathology at the UNC School of Medicine in 1946 and held the post until 1973, building a research program in thrombosis and hemostasis. His department invented the partial thromboplastin time (PTT) test used in clinical laboratories.

The University named its 1973 pathology building for Kenneth M. Brinkhous and his predecessor James B. Bullitt, who between them chaired the Department of Pathology from 1913 to 1973.
