James Moeser became the ninth chancellor at Chapel Hill on August 15, 2000 and served until June 30, 2008, years of the Carolina First campaign, which raised 2.38 billion dollars, and the Carolina Covenant for low-income students. He then returned to the university as chancellor emeritus and professor of music.

Sixteen pages of front matter and 145 pages of text. Topics include American speeches and the university itself.

Howes describe the ten-year building program that reshaped the UNC campus in Chapel Hill, when some six million square feet in new buildings went up and a million more of historic buildings were restored. Chapters treat the campus master plan, siting and design decisions, the historic north campus, the southeast and health-sciences precincts and the planned Carolina North research campus, with contributions by chancellors James Moeser and Holden Thorp. Published by UNC Press in 2012, 175 pages.
