Aziz Sancar
Aziz Sancar joined UNC's faculty in 1982 and is the Sarah Graham Kenan Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics; his lab there mapped how cells repair damaged DNA. Since 2007 he and Gwen Sancar have run Carolina Turk Evi for Turkish students and scholars, and in 2018 they broke ground on the Sancar Turkish Cultural and Community Center.
