Art Chansky's 2016 account of Dean Smith, Charlie Scott and the years that changed Chapel Hill as a Southern college town. Scott was the first Black scholarship player in the Carolina basketball program. Topics include civil rights, racism in sports and the university's twentieth-century history.

Fifty seven pages with illustrations. The study examines the Daily Tar Heel, the Carolina Times of Durham and the News and Observer, addressing college integration and race relations in the press.

Mark Briggs wrote this 2000 thesis on the integration of Southern college athletics during the 1960s, following Charlie Scott at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Perry Wallace at Vanderbilt. One hundred eighty typescript leaves with a bibliography. Chuck Stone advised the work, with Ferrell Guillory and Genna Rae McNeil on the committee.

Bob Rubin's magazine profile of Charlie Scott, the first African American scholarship athlete at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, hung on his last second basket that beat Davidson by 87 to 85. It ran in Sport for January 1970 and survives as a detached clipping with a color portrait, four pages in all.
