McGavran (1902-1972), physician, health officer and teacher in the School of Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which published the book in 1979. Some 117 pages with portraits, a bibliography and a list of McGavran's own publications at pages 106 to 109. The spine title is Guardian of the body politic.
