Elson S. Floyd

Elson S. Floyd (1956–2015) spent about fourteen years at UNC-Chapel Hill and the UNC system, from General College adviser to the University's first executive vice chancellor, hired by Chancellor Michael Hooker in 1995. He received a Massey Award in 1998 and left that year to lead Western Michigan University.

Elson Floyd serves as UNC's executive vice chancellor Chancellor Michael Hooker hired Floyd in 1995 as executive vice chancellor, overseeing auxiliary services, facilities, business and finance, human resources, information technology, student affairs and university advancement. The Massey Awards profile calls it a newly created position, but Chancellor Paul Hardin had named Provost Richard McCormick to a newly created post of the same title in October 1993.   2. A 70-foot oak weakened by Hurricane Fran falls on Venable Hall A 70-foot white oak fell against Venable Hall at about 2:10 p.m., damaging handrails on the building's steps; no one was hurt.
