Mildred "Mama Dip" Council cooked in Chapel Hill for decades, in the Carolina dining hall, fraternities, faculty homes, the Carolina Inn and UNC Memorial Hospital, before taking over a failing Rosemary Street restaurant in 1976 with $40 for food and $24 for change. Mama Dip's Kitchen became part of Chapel Hill's Northside neighborhood.
