1. February 10, 2015 Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha are killed in Chapel Hill On February 10, 2015, a neighbor shot and killed Deah Barakat, 23, his wife Yusor Abu-Salha, 21, and her sister Razan Abu-Salha, 19, in the couple's Chapel Hill condominium. He pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree murder in June 2019 and received three consecutive life sentences without parole. 2. February 11, 2015 About 2,000 people hold a vigil in UNC's Pit for Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha and Razan Abu-Salha The day after the three were killed, an estimated 2,000 people gathered at the Pit on the UNC campus. 3. June 2015 UNC and the Dental Foundation of North Carolina set up the Deah Barakat and Yusor Abu-Salha Memorial Award The university and the Dental Foundation of North Carolina established a memorial award in the names of Deah Barakat and Yusor Abu-Salha, to be presented for the first time in the 2015-16 academic year. September 17, 2015 UNC dental students hold the first DEAH DAY of service More than 350 students of the UNC School of Dentistry gave nearly 1,200 hours to 22 local organizations, from Habitat for Humanity in Efland to Table in Carrboro, in memory of Deah Barakat and Yusor Abu-Salha. DEAH DAY stands for Directing Efforts And Honoring Deah And Yusor, and the school was still holding it in 2024.
