Supporting local figure
Charles Sumner "Chuck" Stone Jr. taught journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill from 1991 until he retired in 2005, and the university's Chuck Stone Program for Diversity in Education and Media carries his name. Before teaching he was a Tuskegee Airman, a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Philadelphia Daily News's first African American columnist.
