Richard Stanford

Richard Stanford moved to the Hawfields district of Orange County in 1789 and opened an academy there in September 1790; Thomas Hart Benton was among his early pupils. He married Jeanette, daughter of Alexander Mebane Jr., and from 1797 until his death in 1816 represented a Piedmont district in the US House of Representatives.

A 1993 microfilm publication from University Publications of America reproducing the Stephen Moore papers of 1767 to 1869 on two reels of 35 mm film, with a printed reel guide. Moore, 1734 to 1799, was a merchant at Hillsborough and a legislator, and the material takes in account books, plantation and agricultural records, family correspondence, and ties to Maryland, New York and Quebec.

Richard D. White's collection of papers from ten families of central and eastern North Carolina, 1751 to 1929, plus miscellaneous items. The Isenhour papers from Anson, Cabarrus and Rowan counties include land papers, a 1796 apprentice bond, accounts and the will and estate of Michael and Barbara Isenhour. Orange County, the university and Trinity College are among the places touched. State Archives of North Carolina, PC.133.
