E. H. Pogue

E. H. Pogue, a Tennessee-born merchant, dealt in tobacco from 1866 alongside a wholesale tinware and general merchandise trade, made plug tobacco at a Hillsborough factory from about 1872, and kept his home and the Occoneechee Hotel there after moving his business to Durham in 1879.

  1. E. H. Pogue starts making tinware for the wholesale trade in Hillsborough E. H. Pogue announced that he had begun manufacturing tinware in Hillsborough for merchants and retail dealers, and would also sell it to townspeople at wholesale rates.   2. Joseph E. Pogue clerks in his brother E. H. Pogue's Hillsborough store At 18, Joseph Ezekiel Pogue left East Tennessee for Hillsborough, where he clerked in the general store of his brother, E. H. Pogue, until September 1871. He then became a traveling salesman for a tobacco factory, the start of a tobacco career that took him to Henderson in 1875 and Raleigh in 1885. People: E. H. Pogue moves his tobacco manufacturing from Hillsborough to Durham Pogue, a tobacco dealer since 1866 alongside his tinware and general merchandise trade, began making plug tobacco at a factory in Hillsborough in 1872 or 1873. In 1879 he moved the business to Durham, where E. H.   4. E. H. Pogue & Co. hold the opening sale at the Hillsboro Tobacco Warehouse The Hillsboro Tobacco Warehouse, run by E. H. Pogue & Co., held its opening sale on Tuesday, January 5, 1886, and the Observer reported a heavy break with good prices.
