Joseph Ezekiel Pogue Sr.

Joseph Ezekiel Pogue Sr. (1851–1926), later a Raleigh tobacco manufacturer and longtime secretary of the North Carolina Agricultural Society, began his North Carolina career in Hillsborough, clerking in his brother E. H. Pogue's general store from January 1870 to September 1871.

  1. Joseph E. Pogue clerks in his brother E. H. Pogue's Hillsborough store At 18, Joseph Ezekiel Pogue left East Tennessee for Hillsborough, where he clerked in the general store of his brother, E. H. Pogue, until September 1871. He then became a traveling salesman for a tobacco factory, the start of a tobacco career that took him to Henderson in 1875 and Raleigh in 1885. People: E. H.
