Sally Greene

Sally Greene is a lawyer and scholar who has held local office in Orange County almost continuously since 2003. In three terms on the Chapel Hill Town Council she worked on housing, homelessness, criminal justice reform and public art. Elected to the Orange County Board of Commissioners in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, she served on the committee that recommended naming Carrboro's new library building for Robert Drakeford.

Chapel Hill dedicates the Peace and Justice Plaza marker The town unveiled a granite marker at Peace and Justice Plaza, in front of the old post office on Franklin Street, naming nine local activists: Charlotte Adams, Hank Anderson, James Brittian, Joe Herzenberg, Mildred Ringwalt, Hubert Robinson, Joe Straley, Lucy Straley and Gloria Williams. The Town Council had named the plaza in 2006 and set criteria for later honorees. Carrboro and Orange County name the Drakeford Library Complex The Carrboro Town Council on October 15 and the Orange County commissioners on November 7, 2024 approved naming the building under construction at 203 South Greensboro Street for Robert "Bob" Drakeford, Carrboro's first Black mayor. A naming committee of two council members, two commissioners and two Friends of the Library members recommended the name on September 24 after a community survey drew more than 200 responses.
