Mack P. Efland

Mack P. Efland (1879–1977), of the family the town of Efland is named for, managed the excelsior (wood wool) plant the Eflands founded there in 1906, one of the first in North Carolina. The family later opened a hosiery mill (1912), a knitting company and a tractor dealership.

The Council of Defense forms a committee to handle soldiers' business affairs On July 9, 1917, the Orange County Council of Defense formed a Soldiers' Business Aid Committee, chaired by Frank Nash, to attend to any business a soldier wanted looked after.
