Local figure
Alexander Dickson, a farmer and businessman, owned from about 1839 the house of about 1790 a mile and a half south of Hillsborough that Generals Wade Hampton and Joseph E. Johnston used as headquarters in April 1865. His household included his wife, ten children and as many as three enslaved African Americans.
