Lula M. Cassidy
Lula M. Cassidy was Orange County's rural school supervisor and canning club agent from 1915 to 1917. She helped Superintendent S. P. Lockhart set up township teachers' meetings, the first at the Carrboro school in December 1915. In August 1917 she was elected secretary of the county Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense, resigning a month later because she was leaving the county.

- Superintendent Lockhart's first township teachers' meeting meets at the Carrboro school With rural supervisor Lula Cassidy, Lockhart set up meetings of the teachers in each township, smaller than the county meeting. The first, at the Carrboro school, drew a state education official and University School of Education staff, and the Merritt school came with all its teachers and its whole committee. - A Hillsboro mass meeting takes up a co-operative marketing exchange for farm produce A mass meeting at the court house heard plans for a county co-operative marketing association and exchange at Hillsboro for the produce of the Home Demonstration and canning clubs, with a rest room and a home demonstration school. - Orange County women organize the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense About fifty women representing every women's organization in the county met at the Hillsborough court house on August 1, 1917, and elected Mrs. J. Cheshire Webb chairman, Lula Cassidy secretary and Mrs. Isaac Manning treasurer. On Labor Day they replaced township units with one central committee of eleven departments. People: Lula M.
