The school board names Lula Cassidy rural supervisor and county canning agent
A week after electing Mary O. Graham supervisor, the board chose Lula Cassidy as rural supervisor and canning agent. In 1916 it put her in charge of a county-wide school commencement in Hillsboro.

Superintendent Lockhart's first township teachers' meeting meets at the Carrboro school
With rural supervisor Lula Cassidy, Lockhart set up meetings of the teachers in each township, smaller than the county meeting. The first, at the Carrboro school, drew a state education official and University School of Education staff, and the Merritt school came with all its teachers and its whole committee.

The Orange County school board asks Superintendent Lockhart to resign, and he refuses
The board said Lockhart had failed to adjust to the county's enlarged educational plans and would not cooperate with county supervisor Lula Cassidy. He refused to resign and stayed in office until his term ended in 1917.

Orange County women organize the Woman's Committee of the Council of National Defense
About fifty women representing every women's organization in the county met at the Hillsborough court house on August 1, 1917, and elected Mrs. J. Cheshire Webb chairman, Lula Cassidy secretary and Mrs. Isaac Manning treasurer. On Labor Day they replaced township units with one central committee of eleven departments.
