  2. Frances Devereux deeds Primus to Dr. Edmund Strudwick

    Slavery and freedom · Hillsborough

    Five months after her husband died, Frances Devereux of Raleigh deeded Primus to Dr. Edmund Strudwick of Hillsborough. Primus later drove and gardened at the Burwell School and, after emancipation, worked at the Nash and Kollock School as Primus Smith.

  3. The Nash and Kollock School turns the old Nash law office into a music room

    After Chief Justice Frederick Nash died, his daughters Sally and Maria Nash and their cousin Sarah Kollock began holding their school's music lessons in his former law office on Margaret Lane.

  4. Nash and Kollock School for young ladies opens in Hillsborough

    Founding or opening · Frederick Nash House, Hillsborough

    After Chief Justice Frederick Nash died in 1858, his daughters Sarah and Maria Nash and their cousin Sarah Kollock opened a select boarding and day school for girls in the Nash home.

  5. Two rooms are added to the Nash law office for music practice and Sarah Kollock's lodging

    Two rooms were built onto the west side of the old Nash law office to give the Nash and Kollock School more practice rooms and to house Sarah Kollock.

  7. Women's groups give scientific apparatus to the reopened university

    At the board's request Cornelia Phillips Spencer gathered gifts of instruments from women around the state, including Plateau's apparatus from the pupils of the Nash and Kollock school in Hillsborough. The women of Hillsborough gave a Holtz electrical machine in memory of William A. Graham, which Paul C. Cameron presented at the 1877 commencement.

  8. Nash and Kollock School closes as a boarding school

    Closing or ending · Frederick Nash House, Hillsborough

    The Nash and Kollock boarding school closed at the end of its 1890 to 1891 session after thirty-one years. The Misses Nash and Kollock went on with a day school from August 6, 1891.

    The former Nash law office remained a music studio until the death of Sarah Kollock, the last of the teachers of the Nash and Kollock School.
