In the chronology

  1. Chapel Hill Museum is organized in the former town library In 1995 a museum study committee proposed a town museum for the former public library at 523 East Franklin Street, and in November the town council agreed to negotiate a rent-free lease with Chapel Hill Museum Inc. The nonprofit museum opened its first exhibit to the public in February 1998.
  2. Orange County commissioners take up a request to name the Morgan Creek bridge for James Taylor The Orange County Board of Commissioners was set to vote on a resolution asking the state Board of Transportation to name the U.S. 15-501 bridge over Morgan Creek in Chapel Hill after James Taylor. Alan E. Rimer made the request for the Chapel Hill Museum board, which was planning an exhibition on Taylor.
  3. The U.S. 15-501 bridge over Morgan Creek is named the James Taylor Bridge The 1987 bridge on U.S. 15-501 South, a mile from Taylor's boyhood home, was named the James Taylor Bridge at a public ceremony at the Dean Smith Center held by the N.C. Department of Transportation and the Chapel Hill Museum. Taylor attended.
  4. The Chapel Hill Museum closes its physical site The Chapel Hill Museum closed to the public on July 11, 2010, after 14 years in the town-owned former library building on East Franklin Street. Its trustees said the Town Council's budget offer of $20,250 fell short of the $49,000 supporters had sought for building upkeep, and staff planned to find new homes for its artifacts.
