Bill Neal
Bill Neal, who grew up on a small South Carolina farm, opened La Residence after returning to the Chapel Hill and Durham area, and in 1982 turned Crook's Corner, the West Franklin Street barbecue place with a pink pig on its roof, into a restaurant serving Southern cooking. He wrote Bill Neal's Southern Cooking to preserve its recipes and traditions.
