Simon Lindley

Simon Lindley was born in Orange County on 20 January 1769 and, after marrying Anna Stanley in South Carolina in 1789, made his home there until the family moved to Christian County, Kentucky, in the mid-1790s. A farmer, Predestinarian Baptist minister and surveyor, he kept a cipher book of arithmetic and surveying methods from 1786 to 1795.
