Thomas W. Lambeth, a 1957 Carolina history graduate, served on the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees and chaired it for two years. He was executive director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation for 23 years, and a Chapel Hill professorship and public policy lecture bear his name.

The papers cover North Carolina politics and government since 1951, Democratic Party campaigns, election districts, public welfare law, community development and hog farming, with entries for the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and the Chapel Hill Board of Trustees.
