Johnston Blakeley Jones

Johnston Blakeley Jones (1814–1889) was born at Rock Rest in Chatham County and settled in Chapel Hill as a physician in 1841. He took over the old medicine shop on Franklin Street and, with Dr. George Moore, ran a practice that also trained medical students. In the 1850s he built a board-and-batten Gothic Revival cottage, the only one known in Chapel Hill. Bankrupt by 1865, he moved to Charlotte in 1868.
