John Hayles Blackfeather Jeffries (1939–2023), born to a Hillsborough family and a 1957 graduate of Orange County's Central High School, played leading roles in the Occaneechi Band of the Saponi Nation's campaign for state recognition and in building the replica Occaneechi Village in Hillsborough. He planned the first powwow on the Eno in 1995.
