Local figure
John Dee Holeman was born in Hillsborough in 1929 and at six moved with his family to a farm in northern Orange County. As a teenager he played house parties, pig-pickings, corn shuckings, country dances and juke joints, learning guitar from his uncle and cousin and from Blind Boy Fuller's records. He moved to Durham in 1954.
