Floyd Council and two brothers play Chapel Hill's streets as the Chapel Hillbillies
Chapel Hill-born blues guitarist and singer Floyd Council began performing in the 1920s with two brothers on the streets of the town, under the name the Chapel Hillbillies.

Kay Kyser helps raise the money to put WUNC-TV on the air
Kay Kyser toured the state with William C. Friday and Billy Carmichael Jr. to raise money for UNC's educational television station, which went on the air from Chapel Hill in January 1955.

Alexander Julian opens Alexander's Ambition on Franklin Street
At 21, while his parents were away for a month, Alexander Julian leased a Franklin Street storefront across the street from his father Maurice Julian's store and opened his own shop, Alexander's Ambition.

Chef Aaron Vandemark opens Panciuto on South Churton Street
Aaron Vandemark opened Panciuto, a restaurant cooking Italian-style food from ingredients grown on nearby farms. Within ten years he had six James Beard nominations for Best Chef: Southeast.
