Chapel Hill's white graded school and high school move into a new West Franklin Street building
After a school bond election in May 1915, Chapel Hill's new $35,000 graded school building went up on West Franklin Street and was in use when the public school opened on September 11, 1916. It held the grammar grades and the high school, whose enrollment had doubled to 85 in four years.

The Bank of Chapel Hill opens a branch, the Bank of Carrboro
The Bank of Chapel Hill raised its capital in the summer of 1919 so it could open a bank in the mill town, and the Bank of Carrboro opened for business on a Saturday late that fall. Deposits on the first day came to more than $30,000.
