  1. Early twentieth century · 1900–1944

  2. Construction or physical change · Efland Presbyterian Church, Efland Efland Presbyterian Church completes its first building

    Two years after twenty charter members organized the church under M. C. Arrowood, the congregation finished its first church at Efland.

  3. Founding or opening · Little River Presbyterian Church, Hurdle Mills Women of Little River Presbyterian Church organize

    The church's women first organized in 1927 with the help of the minister's wife, Mrs. J. W. Mann, forming three circles with about fifty members; the circles lasted until 1948.

  5. Construction or physical change · Efland Presbyterian Church, Efland Efland Presbyterian Church dedicates a new sanctuary

    A large bequest from a member's estate in 1952 let the congregation replace its worn 1910 church with a new building, dedicated on January 25, 1959.

  6. Construction or physical change · Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Oaks Bethlehem Presbyterian Church builds a manse

    The Bethlehem congregation, which has shared ministers over the years with Hawfields, Cross Roads and Efland, built a manse in 1961.

  7. Founding or opening · Phillips Junior High School, Chapel Hill Buie Seawell preaches to a new Presbyterian congregation in Chapel Hill

    University Presbyterian Church had hired Buie Seawell in 1965 as an associate minister to start a second Presbyterian church in town. He preached his first sermon to about 100 people in the Phillips Junior High School cafeteria, the beginning of the Church of Reconciliation.

  8. Founding or opening · Chapel Hill Orange Presbytery organizes the Church of Reconciliation in Chapel Hill

    Presbytery formally organized the congregation that had been meeting since September 1966. Orange Presbytery and University Presbyterian Church later gave it a nine-acre site with an old house and barns.

  10. Construction or physical change · Church of Reconciliation, Chapel Hill The Church of Reconciliation worships for the first time in its own building

    Almost eight years after receiving its land, the congregation built three units on the site and held its first service there on March 6, 1977.

  11. Disaster or outbreak · Hillsborough Presbyterian Church, 102 West Tryon Street, Hillsborough Fire damages the Hillsborough Presbyterian Church

    An early-morning fire badly damaged the church's education building, and smoke and water damaged the sanctuary and Strudwick Hall; a commission was overseeing the rebuilding in 1988.

  12. Construction or physical change · New Hope Presbyterian Church, New Hope New Hope Presbyterian Church installs a Brombaugh tracker organ

    A mechanical-action organ built by John Brombaugh, his Opus 31B, was installed and voiced at New Hope Presbyterian Church on December 1, 1987.
