Adelaide Walters is president of the Chapel Hill League of Women Voters
Adelaide Walters, who had come to the university for graduate study in 1940 and stayed on as a staff member and research assistant, served as president of the Chapel Hill League of Women Voters in 1950 and 1951. She was president of the state league from 1954 to 1956.

Roland Giduz and Adelaide Walters are elected to the Chapel Hill Board of Aldermen
In a heavy turnout that also re-elected Mayor Oliver K. Cornwell and approved a $500,000 bond issue, voters re-elected aldermen Hubert Robinson and Paul Wager and chose two new members, Adelaide Walters and Roland Giduz. As low man among the winners, Giduz drew a two-year term.

McClamroch is sworn in as mayor and Joe Page is named to his aldermen seat
McClamroch and three re-elected aldermen, Adelaide Walters, Paul Wager and Hubert Robinson, were sworn in at the Monday night meeting of the Board of Aldermen by Recorder's Court Judge William Stewart. The board named businessman Joe Page to the unexpired two year aldermen's term McClamroch left on becoming mayor, and elected Mrs. Walters mayor pro tem.

Chapel Hill aldermen vote down a public accommodations ordinance
The Board of Aldermen rejected, 4 to 2, an ordinance that would have required all town businesses to serve Black customers, and set up a nine-member committee on race relations instead. Integration leaders promised more demonstrations.

Adelaide Walters chairs the Inter-Church Council's housing committee
After leaving the Board of Aldermen, Adelaide Walters chaired the housing committee of the Inter-Church Council for Social Service (later the Inter-Faith Council) from 1966 to 1973. Her papers deal with civil rights for Black residents of Chapel Hill and with urban and regional planning.

Adelaide Walters, a Democratic Party regional coordinator in the 1960s, was Orange County co-manager of Jimmy Carter's 1976 presidential campaign.

Ground is broken for the Adelaide Walters Apartments
Community Housing Alternatives, an organization created by the Inter-Faith Council, broke ground in 1983 for the Adelaide Walters Apartments in Chapel Hill, two years after Walters died.
