Farmers Mutual Exchange

The Farmers Mutual Exchange was a cooperative formed in March 1930 by about 400 farmers of Durham and nearby counties to market farm products and buy supplies at cost. In Orange County it ran a Hillsborough branch, a livestock auction market that held its first sale in 1941, a slaughterhouse, and a Carrboro branch opened in 1945.
