Figure in the county’s wider story
Sparrow was a cadet at the Hillsborough Military Academy, west of Hillsborough, in 1861 and 1862, and wrote to his father from the academy about leaving it for the army. He was in camp with the Army of the Pamlico by 1863 and later practised law and became a Presbyterian minister.
