Fumiko Seki, a Japanese woman, lived in Chapel Hill from 1955 to 1957 while her husband held a Rockefeller Foundation fellowship at UNC. As a mother, wife and student she watched how the town kept the color line, and she described it in her memoir Chaperu hiru monogatari (Chapel Hill Story).
