1. February 22, 1930 Manning Pritchard and Philip Lloyd buy the Patterson Brothers drugstore from its receivers The Patterson Brothers drugstore went into receivership early in 1930, and on February 22 Manning Pritchard and Philip Lloyd (James Manning Pritchard and Thomas Phillip Lloyd) bought its stock and equipment from the receivers, F. O. Bowman and C. W. Hall, to run as Pritchard-Lloyd, Inc. Lloyd had long worked in the Patterson store; Pritchard, youngest child of the late W. N. Pritchard, came from drugstores in Durham, Greensboro and Raleigh. Bryant names Wallace Durham Patterson as the seller. The maps then list it as the Pritchard and Lloyd Rexall store. 2. 1936 James M. Pritchard buys out Thomas Lloyd and becomes sole owner of the drugstore Pritchard took sole charge of the former Patterson Brothers store, now Pritchard's Drugstore. Lloyd opened his own Carolina Pharmacy in 1940. 3. 1944 Pritchard's drugstore on East Franklin Street closes after its owner dies James Manning Pritchard died and his drugstore shut. Rachel Crook sold pecans in the empty store for a short while before the North Carolina Cafeteria, formerly on Fraternity Row, bought the building and moved in.
