Philip Meyer
Philip Meyer earned a master's in political science in Chapel Hill in the 1950s and returned in 1981 as a Kenan Professor of journalism at UNC, later becoming the school's first Knight Chair. The author of Precision Journalism advised 72 theses and dissertations, retired from teaching in 2008 and died at home in Carrboro in 2023.
