Hillsborough resident Allan Gurganus, author of Oldest Living Confederate Widow Tells All and White People, was a visiting scholar at UNC's Institute for the Arts and Humanities in 1996 and read in the Second Sunday series at Wilson Library in February 1997.

Catalog of the Tyche Foundation gift to the Ackland Art Museum, published for the exhibition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that ran from 22 May to 29 August 2010. Forty nine pages of illustrations and portraits, many in color, with fiction and poetry by Allan Gurganus written in response to works in the collection.
Allan Gurganus wrote this brief oration for the installation of Holden Thorp as chancellor of the University of North Carolina on 12 October 2008. The material includes three sequences of pages and leaves: the typescript with manuscript notations, a next to last draft, and out-takes and earlier tries. Topics include the inauguration of college presidents at Chapel Hill and the Office of the Chancellor. In UNC's North Carolina Collection.

The novelist Elizabeth Spencer, 1921 to 2019, left papers spanning 1911 to 2018 with the bulk from 1999 to 2003.
