Bill Dow

Bill Dow, a physician and organic farmer, founded the North Carolina Agricultural Marketing Project with Laura Heise in 1978, work that led directly to the Carrboro Farmers' Market. He served on Orange County's Committee for Solar and Appropriate Technology and helped bring student health coalitions to UNC.

Bill Dow (1945-2012) left papers spanning the 1940s to 2016, in the Southern Historical Collection at UNC, collection 5612. The papers concern two main areas: rural and community health services across the South, including the Vanderbilt Student Health Coalition and Vanderbilt's Center for Health Services, and farmers' markets in Carrboro and elsewhere, with the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, solar greenhouses and regional planning in Chatham County alongside.
