Carl Boettcher

Carl Boettcher, a German-born woodcarver, worked six years in the University's buildings department in Chapel Hill. In 1948 he carved the redwood Circus Parade, nearly 25 feet long, from a William Meade Prince sketch, and his campus work includes the University seal in front of South Building and the Forest Theatre sign. He died in Carrboro in 1950.

Colourpicture postcard of the Circus Room, for many years a cafeteria at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. A long carved wooden circus parade runs along its wall, designed by William Meade Prince and carved by Carl Boettcher, and made for the Monogram Club. Undated.
