Walnut Grove Methodist Church begins
Walnut Grove Methodist Church began in 1841, when the circuit rider Sidney Bumpass started holding services there and the community soon built a log church on land given by Samuel Woods. By 1953 it had 400 members.

Walnut Grove Methodist Church dedicates its frame church
The congregation began a frame church in 1891 on land given by Anthony W. Cole, replacing the log building it had used since the 1840s, and dedicated it on October 29, 1893. The frame church served until the stone church of 1937 to 1942.

Walnut Grove Methodist Church replaces its wooden church with a stone one
On May 4, 1937 the Walnut Grove congregation in northern Orange began building a rubble-stone Gothic Revival church, with buttresses and stained glass, from fieldstone that local farmers gathered, to replace its frame church of the early 1890s. The church was dedicated on April 14, 1942.
