Duncan Cameron builds a law office on Margaret Lane, later the Nash Law Office
Lawyer Duncan Cameron built a one-story Federal-style law office on his lots on Margaret Lane. In 1807 he sold the property to Frederick Nash, who kept his practice there and taught law students in it until his death in 1858.

Frederick Nash moves from New Bern to Hillsborough
Nash and his wife left New Bern for Hillsborough in 1807 seeking a healthier climate. There he bought a small one-story house, an office and cabins for slave quarters from Duncan Cameron.

After Chief Justice Frederick Nash died, his daughters Sally and Maria Nash and their cousin Sarah Kollock began holding their school's music lessons in his former law office on Margaret Lane.

Hattie V. Brown bought the half of lot 10 that held the old Nash law office. The property then changed hands several times before the Hillsborough Historical Society bought it in 1970.

The Hillsborough Historical Society buys the Nash Law Office
After several private owners, the Hillsborough Historical Society bought the Nash Law Office on West Margaret Lane, the oldest law office in town. It had served as a music studio for the Nash and Kollock School until 1907.
